To make it as easy as possible to style your photo booth graphics, we&#8217;ve created a growing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.simplebooth.com\/blog\/prop-packs-and-photo-booth-themes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">library of fresh, free event themes<\/a> in the app! You may want to first check if there is one that will suit your design needs before diving in to creating a custom photo booth overlay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Preparing to design<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>First, you&#8217;ll need to get a graphics editing program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The most well-known design software is Photoshop\u2014and it&#8217;s great if you are an experienced designer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For the rest of us, we recommend these two budget-friendly programs that many of our customers have found to be useful: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/pixlr.com\/editor\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Pixlr<\/a> which is similar to Photoshop<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.canva.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Canva<\/a> as the most user-friendly option.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>These are tools that anyone can use to make a basic overlay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Note: In order to save an overlay from Canva, you will need to sign up for their Premium subscription. <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Creating your first overlay for the HALO app is simple and takes just 3 steps. Let\u2019s get started!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">1. Pick your layout<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Each layout has a unique size and requires a layout-specific overlay. The overall size of your layout will be determined by your layout type (single photo, 1&#215;2 strip, 1&#215;3 strip, etc.), photo crop (square, circle or none), iPad orientation (portrait or landscape), the thickness of your margins, and whether or not you\u2019re using a logo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We recommend deciding on those key settings before designing your overlay in order to get the correct dimensions and avoid re-work if you change any of those settings.&nbsp;Your should create your design according to the layout\u2019s final dimensions, as indicated in the Design panel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.simplebooth.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Simple-Booth-Overlay.png\" alt=\"App overlay screenshot A\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" class=\"lazyload\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 1174px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 1174\/990;\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Our <a href=\"https:\/\/help.simplebooth.com\/en\/articles\/452609-halo-graphic-design-guide\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">design guide<\/a> also includes sizing specifications that are organized according to these layouts. These are more general recommendations that will allow you to create an overlay that will fit well, just in case you\u2019re unable to select your other settings first.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you end up being off by a few pixels, don&#8217;t worry! The Simple Booth HALO\u00ae app will stretch overlays just enough so that you can&#8217;t tell they are distorted, but enough to make up for any small differences in actual dimensions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2. Design your overlay<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>It&#8217;s time to learn how to use that graphics editing software you picked! In Pixlr, you\u2019ll select transparency when you create the file. In Canva you\u2019ll only be able to select transparency when saving the overlay at the end.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Get creative with your design by placing elements around the edges.<br><\/strong>The design tools are different in Pixlr and Canva. For example, if you want to add a logo to your design, in Pixlr, you&#8217;ll upload an image as a layer. In Canva, you&#8217;ll use the upload section in the menu. In either one, you can resize the logo and place it where you&#8217;d like it to appear. Make sure to place your assets around the edges to leave space in the middle for your photo takers.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Leave lots of transparent space.<\/strong><br>With overlays, sometimes less is more.\u00a0It is important that the center area of your design is transparent so that your guests\u2019 photos will show behind the overlay, but even around the edges try not to completely cover the height or width of the photo, so that other elements of the photo can pop through.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Save your image file.<br><\/strong>Save your file as a PNG to keep the transparent background. JPEGs do not support transparency and will not work.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">3. Upload to Simple Booth<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>When you\u2019re ready, upload your file!
